OxiMax International CDE Electrochemical Chlorine Dioxide Generator
|
|
How Does the Generator Operate? Our CDE electrochemical chlorine dioxide generators utilize one chemical - OxiMate and electrical power to produce 99.5% pure chlorine dioxide. Chlorine dioxide is produced as a 1,000 – 3,000 ppm solution which is stored ready for accurate dosing with metering pumps.
Chlorine Dioxide Generation Reactions ① Anode (oxidation): ClO2- → ClO2 + e-
② Cathode (reduction): 2H2O + 2e- → H2 + 2OH-
① + ② (combined) 2ClO2- + 2H2O → 2ClO2 + H2 + 2OH-

Safety Chlorine dioxide has never been safer to produce and dose. Unlike other generator types which require storage of incompatible chemicals, the OxiMax CDE chlorine dioxide generators require one chemical OxiMate. The storage of incompatible chemicals (such as sodium chlorite and hydrochloric acid) represents an inherent safety risk, as the chemicals can possibly contact each other outside of the generator in case of spills. The OxiMax CDE generator has completely eliminated this risk.
Chlorine dioxide is produced in the CDE generator as a chlorine dioxide solution. The solution is then recirculated through our VClone to extract pure chlorine dioxide gas. The chlorine dioxide gas is dissolved in water to form a pure 1,000 – 3,000 ppm solution. This concentration solution is safe to store and pump. Typical acid-chlorite generators produce 20,000 ppm solution in the reactor which can possibly explode if a vacuum is pulled on the reactor. In the case of high concentration acid-chlorite generators, if the dilution water fails, the concentration produced can cause spontaneous explosion without vacuum. The OxiMax CDE generator eliminates this safety risk.
Chlorine gas and hydrochloric acid are not required for the CDE generator. Other generators require chlorine gas as a feed chemical. Chlorine gas has inherent safety risk due to its hazardous nature. Hydrochloric acid is a hazardous chemical which fumes and causes corrosion. The CDE generator does not require these chemicals so the risk is eliminated.

High Efficiency Equals Lowest Running Cost The OxiMax CDE generator produces chlorine dioxide at extremely high efficiency and purity. Due to the excellent conversion capability, the maximum amount of sodium chlorite is converted to chlorine dioxide. As there are no other feed chemicals and the cost of electrical power is low, the OxiMax CDE generator running cost is very low. Sodium hydroxide is produced at 20% concentration as a by-product of the reaction process. In some cases, this is a useful chemical for cleaning or other pH correction applications. So, the cost of purchasing this chemical can be offset by the free provision of this chemical .

Corrosion Resistance The OxiMax CDE chlorine dioxide generator is completely pre-wired and plumbed into a chemical resistant enclosure. All plumbing is schedule 80 grey uPVC and cPVC. Metering pump liquid ends are PVDF and elastomers are viton. The choice of chemically resistant materials ensures long equipment life.

Multiple Point Dosing from PLC and Touchscreen The OxiMax CDE chlorine dioxide generator is controlled from a central control panel which includes a PLC and touchscreen. It is possible to control up to three separate dosing pumps from the dosing page using either flow proportional or residual control. PID setpoints can be entered so that accurate residual control is obtained. The touchscreen displays operation status of all items and alarms and can be equipped with ethernet for remote monitoring.
Most other two or three chemical chlorine dioxide generators require multiple generators for multiple dosing points. This can be expensive and require complex control systems. The CDE chlorine dioxide generator can dose chlorine dioxide to many dosing points by the addition of one metering pump per dosing point. The only limitation is the capacity of the generator. The advantage is lower capital cost and greater flexibility to add dosing points at a later stage if processes require it.
