Sodium Hypochlorite Dosing Systems Dioxide Pacific provides sodium hypochlorite dosing systems in package formats which can include bulk chemical storage tanks, chemical bunding, tanker unloading areas, metering pumps, chlorine residual analysers, electrical control panels with site installation and commissioning. Some typical examples are highlighted below.
Disinfection of Filtered Dam Water at Mine Site Water is pumped from a storage dam to a portable building mount treatment plant. The plant consists of filtration and UV disinfection. Treated water is stored in a clearwater tank where it is circulated and disinfected with sodium hypochlorite. Chemical is stored in 500L chemical tanks inside the building and dosed using ProMinent Beta metering pumps. Residual control is via ProMinent D2C pH/ORP controller using proportional control. The complete system was provided fully wired and plumbed inside the building and transported to site. Water from the clearwater tank is used for safety showers and ablutions.
Replacement of Electrolytic Chlorination with Sodium Hypochlorite for Odour Control on Scrubber Logan Pollution Control Centre originally had an electrolytic chlorination system operating to produce chlorine in recirculating scrubber liquor. This was done by adding salt to the liquor and by-passing some of the recirculation flow through the electrolytic cells. This system was fraught with many problems including fouling of the cells and subsequent manual cleaning of the cells with acid. OH&S risk assessment determined that sodium hypochlorite was a better alternative.
The old system was removed and replaced with a sodium hypochlorite dosing plant. Dual IBC chemical tanks (duty and standby) were installed in fibreglass IBC bunds. Chemical is delivered and placed by forklift into the IBC bund. Chemical dosing equipment is mounted on an HDPE backboard which is also mounted to the scrubber outside wall. Chemical dosing lines are run through the wall to the scrubber recirculation line. Chlorine residual is controlled via redox measurement and an auto-tune PID controller. pH control is also included with caustic dosing to maintain pH at around 8.0 and ORP at 750 mV. Conductivity of the scrubber liquor is monitored and controlled via an automatic bleed valve. The complete system was designed, supplied and installed by Dioxide Pacific. It has achieved its aim of reducing operator involvement with chemical handling and increased reliability and therefore odour complaints.
Potable Water Disinfection Chlorinated water enters a reservoir at free chlorine concentration which varies due to consumer demand and therefore time. A sample is taken from the reservoir outlet and measured using a ProMinent D1C free chlorine analyser. Using flow feedforward PID control, a dosing pump inside a building adds sodium hypochlorite to maintain the desired setpoint.
Sodium hypochlorite is stored in a 200L HDPE chemical tank inside a fabricated HDPE bund. The dosing plant and recirculation pumps are fabricated at our works and delivered to site, wired and plumbed ready for installation. The plant is then installed and commissioned on site.
